Event | LGBT+ History Month archive exploration & guided gallery tour

1.15pm – 3.00pm:
Join PHM’s expert Archive Team and delve into the museum’s LGBTQIA+ collections, including:

• The archive of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM)
• The collection of Mark Ashton, the co-founder of LGSM, including original hand drawn fanzines
• The papers of Michael Steed, former chairman of the Campaign for Homosexual Equality, including material from the north west of England dating from the 1960s and 1970s
• Magazines collected by the founder of the famous London bookshop Gay’s the Word, including issues of ‘Gay Times’ and ‘Bi Community News’ magazines, and ‘Gay News’ newspaper
• Papers of Hugh Fell, former secretary of the North West Campaign for Lesbian and Gay Equality (NWCLGE)
• Other material drawn from our Labour Party and Communist Party of Great Britain collections

3.00pm – 3.45pm:
Join a guided gallery tour and get to know key items from the museum’s LGBTQIA+ collections including badges and t-shirts, as well as viewing the original Lesbians & Gays Support the Miners banner (1984), which for the first time has been displayed so visitors can view both sides of the design.

Suitable for 16+ (under 18s must have an accompanying adult).
