This fascinating exhibition explores the stories of people who were moved during the Manchester slum clearances of the 1950s and 1960s to the original overspill estates across Greater Manchester. Families were uprooted from inner city dwellings and moved to outer suburbs, mainly built on farmland.
Cartwheel Art’s Overspill project has focussed on Darnhill in Heywood and Langley in Middleton and has uncovered the stories of the people who lived through the slum clearances, giving them the opportunity to voice their experiences.
Suitable for all ages
Following an open call for submissions, the 2019 community exhibition programme was selected by a panel of museum staff and members of a cross section of community groups.
