Leave a lasting legacy

Give back to the places, people and ideas you love.

A gift in your will costs you nothing now, but leaves a lasting legacy.

Leaving a charitable gift in your will gives you the chance to give back to the places, people and ideas you love.

A gift in your will to People’s History Museum provides vital financial support, helping us ensure the museum’s collection and stories are preserved for future generations to enjoy and be inspired by.

We are extremely grateful for each and every legacy that we receive.

Your gift, no matter the size, will help us to:

  • Ensure visits to the museum and all exhibitions remain free for everyone to enjoy
  • Deliver our innovative learning programme to engage young people with radical ideas, inspiring their contribution to positive change
  • Develop partnerships with individuals and communities to ensure their stories are told, voices are heard, and ideas are shared
  • Collect, care for, and conserve an eclectic and colourful mix of historic and contemporary material telling the story of democracy in Britain for future generations
  • Run our building and preserve its heritage for everyone to see

How to leave a donation in your will

There are different ways that you can leave a gift in your will:

  • A share of your estate: this is a gift of all or part of the value of your estate after debts, other legacies and liabilities are met
  • A specific sum: this is when you choose to leave a chosen amount (also known as a pecuniary gift), which you can arrange to be increased in line with inflation

You can ask for your legacy to be directed towards your specific areas of interest.  Or you can make an unrestricted gift; these are particularly valuable as they enable the museum to use your donation where the need is greatest.

We recommend that you seek independent legal advice if you are thinking of leaving a charitable gift in your will to ensure you have fulfilled the necessary legal requirements.  Further information on accessing legal advice can be found on the Citizens Advice website.

To include us in your new will, or add us to your existing will, your solicitor will need the following details:

Charity name: People’s History Museum, registered as the National Museum of Labour History
Charity number: 295260
Charity address: People’s History Museum, Left Bank, Spinningfields, Manchester M3 3ER

There are tax benefits to leaving charitable gifts in your will; visit the gov.uk website for further information on tax relief when you donate to a charity.
