Programme Officer

c. £21,000 plus Membership of Greater Manchester Pension Fund
Contract 35 hours per week. Initial contract two years - extension subject to funding

Are you passionate about co-creating with communities and have experience of developing and project managing high profile events and exhibitions?

People’s History Museum (PHM) is the national museum of democracy, telling the story of its development in Britain: past, present and future.  The museum provides opportunities for people of all ages to learn about, be inspired by and get involved in ideas worth fighting for; ideas such as equality, social justice, co-operation and a fair world for all. PHM offers a powerful programme with annual themes; 2019 sees a year of activities around protest movements to mark the bicentenary of the Peterloo Massacre in Manchester and 2020 will explore the theme of migration and identity. This programme-led approach is central to PHM’s 2018-2022 Business Plan

The museum is seeking a highly organised, strong team player with a passion for working with audiences to curate a varied and far-reaching programme of activity.

Whilst supporting the delivery of the 2019 programme, the Programme Officer will be responsible for undertaking research, consulting with communities and liaising with colleagues to develop and deliver PHM’s 2020 programme of events, exhibitions and learning activities on the theme of migration and identity. This varied role requires strong project management skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with a wide range of external partners, internal colleagues, artists and members of the public. PHM also has an ambitious Digital Policy & Plan and the successful candidate will be committed to experimenting with new digital technologies and approaches as part of the programme.
