Go behind the scenes in PHM’s Conservation Studio and get close up and creative with wool!
Many of the banners in the museum’s collection are made in light and luxurious silk, however the most important material to working people was strong and warm wool. Banners were also made from wool, including the Union & Victory banner (1889) currently on display in the 2023 Banner Exhibition.
Celebrate Heritage Open Days with PHM’s expert Conservation Team as they take you behind the scenes in The Conservation Studio, where the specialist work to care for the museum’s collection takes place.
Get close up and creative using hands-on conservation techniques and a wet felting activity to explore the journey of wool, from the fleece of a sheep to the yarn used to knit and weave fabric.
Family Friendly activity, suitable for age 5 to adults (under 18s must have an accompanying adult).
