Event | Viva Declaration

In celebration of the last weekend of our Disrupt? Peterloo and Protest exhibition, join this visual and musical journey with compositions specially created and performed by Tagné Tebu, a multi-instrumentalist coming from a mix of jazz, African, Latin and Indo-Arabic influences.  The show is led by live visual projections from video artist Kooj Chuhan,  and features special guest musician Helen Summerfield on saxophone and flute.  Viva Declaration will use poetic visuals and documentary sequences to connect migration with colonial history, economics, human rights and contemporary protest for migration justice.  The critical questions and vivis emotions have never been so relevant then here and right now in post-Brexit UK.

Viva Declaration includes a mix of spoken monologues by detainees, human rights activists, legal case workers, plus material from campaigners, academics, and organisations including Angela Davis, Walter Rodney, Shami Chakrabarti, Viraj Mendis, Bridget Anderson, Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit, and These Walls Must Fall campaign.  The event includes a post show Q&A with local rights and justice campaigners.

• Kooj Chuhan is a leading UK based artist-activist.  He has exhibited at Arnolfini in Bristol, Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, internationally including San Diego, Paris, New Delhi, Toronto, and won an award for digital arts connecting refugees with climate change.
• Tagné Tebu has a refugee background and many credits as composer, arranger, musical director and producer including work with world music stars Amadou and Mariam.
