People’s History Museum (PHM), the national museum of democracy, is situated in the heart of Spinningfields. Our event, conference and meeting facilities sit within a magnificently restored historic Grade II listed Edwardian Pump House, the only surviving one of its kind in the city.
Our in house caterer Open Kitchen Cafe & Bar make delicious food that aims to change the food system, reducing waste and food poverty. Our shared values make us one of Manchester’s most exceptional ethical venues.

The stunning Edwardian Engine Hall is our largest space boasts a vaulted iron and glass roof, vast windows and original glazed tiles. It is perfect for conferences, awards ceremonies, marketplace events and receptions. Can seat up to 100 people or hold 200 guests for a standing reception.
A self-contained space with restored brick walls and a vaulted iron and wood ceiling. The 50 seat space provides the ideal location for workshops, meetings, talks and medium sized social events.
Open Kitchen create mouth-watering dishes using a mix of intercepted ingredients and ethically sourced produce. Their team of passionate chefs use this ever changing mix to create delicious, thoughtful, and seasonal menus, making them the perfect choice for catering your event, meeting, or celebration with a conscience.
You can choose from a wide range of menus, or talk to the experienced events team to create a bespoke package. The team are happy to meet any dietary requirements, allergies or intolerances.
