As the 40th anniversary of the Miners’ Strike (1984-1985) approaches, we will explore the idea of solidarity in campaigning for rights, looking in particular at Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners, and Women Against Pit Closures. We will discuss recent strike action in the UK, the realities of taking part in and supporting strikes, and current and future threats to the rights of workers who strike.
We will make individual responses using textiles and stitch, to highlight the importance of solidarity, to show support for current industrial action, or to highlight the challenges in protecting workers’ rights.
This is the second workshop exploring this topic; the first being an online workshop on Saturday 27 January. You can attend one or both of these workshops; our accompanying resource will support you to continue making in your home setting.
