Join this creative workshop for some stitching, chatting, and sharing inspired by the museum’s collections.
This session will focus on the museum’s new 2025 Banner Exhibition. Participants are invited to explore the exhibition and take a deeper dive into the meaning and relevance of the banners on display and how we relate to them.
Inspired by the Redhill Women’s Co-operative Guild banner, from around 1930, we will explore the history of women’s guilds and craft practice, drawing links to contemporary textile practices and campaigning today.
Did you know? The Co-operative Women’s Guild was established in 1883 by working class women in the movement to provide representation and spread co-operation in their communities. Crafts were always involved in the Co-operative Women’s Guild, as a regular activity during celebrations and meetings.
In response to this banner, we will use discussion and textile processes to create individual and collaborative textile pieces reflecting on what the banners mean to us today.
