Join this creative workshop for some stitching, chatting, and sharing inspired by the museum’s collections.

What happens when the workforce is fragmented and hard to organise? In this workshop we will be exploring the experiences of workers who have struggled to unionise or gain union recognition from their employers. From cleaners, hotel workers and the catering industry through to Deliveroo drivers and Amazon employees, these industries are often low paid with a considerable demographic of migrant employees.
We will learn about barriers to unionisation and the significant actions and strikes that have attempted to overcome these problems to create fairer pay and working conditions.
We will create textile responses to the discussions, which will be used as part of a collective textile piece in future workshops.
Part of PHM’s programme of activity exploring the history of strikes and solidarity.
