Migration: a human story

A two year programme focused on exploring migration at People’s History Museum is reaching its climax this autumn with a series of interventions staged throughout the national museum of democracy. These powerful, moving and sometimes shocking explorations of migration within the UK’s democratic history past and present are the result of a collaboration with a Community Programme Team made up of individuals whose lives have been shaped by migration.

The Longest Act celebrates its 200th birthday at People’s History Museum

The 1821 Land Tax Commissioners’ Act, is physically the longest law UK Parliament has passed and to mark its 200th birthday it will be on display at People’s History Museum (PHM) in Manchester (until 5 December 2021) thanks to a UK Parliamentary Archives loan.

The Unseen Community

A new photographic exhibition has opened at People’s History Museum that is curated by Proud 2 b Parents to highlight its work with LGBT+ parents and carers and their children. Showing until Wednesday 1 September 2021, The Unseen Community seeks to capture the ‘normality’ of everyday life in a series of images taken by artist Allie Crewe.

Counter-flow: the movement of cultures from one place to another

The spread of cultural identities is looked at in a new exhibition at People’s History Museum (PHM) by artist Eva Mileusnic. Counter-flow: the movement of cultures from one place to another will be exhibited until Sunday 10 October 2021 as part of PHM’s migration programme. Beginning with her own experiences, Eva takes visitors on a colourful and creative metaphorical journey that looks at the world and the demographic shifts that take place between cultures.

Summer on a grand scale at People’s History Museum (updated)

People’s History Museum has a series of must-see spectacles to enjoy on a grand scale and of a grand age this school summer holidays. A visually stunning art installation of 100 pairs of ceramic feet, a moving display of Charlie Mackesy’s 5ft tall thank you card to the nation and the 200th birthday of the oldest banner in its world-renowned collection are just some of the highlights awaiting discovery at the national museum of democracy.
